Hi, I’m Dr. Elva Edwards creator of www.childhoodloss.com and author of, “A Texas Tragedy: Orphaned by Bootleggers.” Welcome to our first Vlog!
When we have lost a parent when we were a child, we often have emotions that are overwhelming. Those emotions affect our body. If you don’t do anything else, get some body work that will help you.
I was at a class and met a man in his 50’s who said that he lost a parent when he was a child. More recently he lost his wife to cancer. About 6 months afterwards, he got a massage. He said, “I laid down on the table and from the time that woman’s hands touched my body, I cried the whole way through.” When the massage was complete, he said he felt better than he had in months.
We are so afraid of our feelings, but we don’t have to be. Crying never hurt anyone.
I’ve never seen crying on a death certificate for the cause of death. It won’t happen. We always think, “if I start crying, I’ll never stop.” Yes, you will. You always have stopped crying and you always will stop crying. There is something inside of us that allows a little emotion at a time, not all at once. So, don’t be afraid of tears.
