I talk a lot about imprints. I grew up in West Texas and when I was a little girl we were taught to say “yes, ma’am and no sir.” When I moved to Denver, they just said yes and no. It was very much a Texas thing, maybe just a West Texas thing. And that is to say different cultures, different people, different families do things differently. What happens is we are imprinted differently.
I’m asking you to notice how you are imprinted in a particular way. The sneaky ones are how we think and the attitudes that we have. When you are driving down the street, what kind of thoughts are you having about yourself. Are they negative or positive thoughts? And who does it sound like? If you were treated poorly when you were a child, you may take over where your parents left off. You may say ugly things to yourself like were said to you.
If you are positive or negative makes a big difference in your life, but not only your life but everyone around you. Believe me your children are watching you and they are seeing if you are negative or positive and they are likely to be that way. It is really important for you to notice this because your children’s lives depend on it. Not that they will die from it, but whether they are happy and like themselves. If you can see this in you, you can help your children see it in them. Love yourself and teach your children to love themselves.
